***NEW PROGRAM*** WALK WITH EASE: The classes will be offered in the gym Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 am from October 28th through December 11th. The November 11th class will start at 10:30 instead of 10:00.  No classes will be held on November 20th or 29th. The Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease is a structured 6 week, 3 times weekly program, where walking is the central activity.  It also includes health education information, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational tips and tools.  It is designed for people with arthritis but can beneficial for any adult who can be on their feet for 10 minutes without increased pain.

       FALL FOOD DRIVE: We will be collecting non-perishable food items through the end of October. September kicked off our Fall Food Drive to help those in the community and we thank you for all the donations so far. All proceeds will help the Emmanuel Care Center supply food to our community. There will be a location up front by the offices of the center to bring your food items.  We appreciate your support and donations; you are helping the need in this area.

      PINK RIBBON RAFFLE BASKET: Enter The Raffle In October To Win A Basket In Honor Of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tickets Are $1 Each. Make Sure You Put Your Name And Phone Number On The Ticket. The Winner Will Be Chosen At Our Halloween Potluck Luncheon On October 31st.  Winner Need Not Be Present. Proceeds to Benefit Girard Multi-GenerationalCenter’s Holiday Fun Night!

OAK STREET HEALTH SEMINAR: Tuesday, October 1st at 9:15 a.m. in the coffee bar. New to our area with a focus strictly on seniors, we will have Oak Street joining us to talk about all the services they will provide.

OSHIIP MEDICARE SEMINAR: Wednesday, October 2nd at 9:30 a.m. The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program will be here for an informational update on Medicare. Please attend to learn the basics of Medicare and about changes for 2020. MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT BEGINS OCTOBER 15TH AND ENDS DECEMBER 7TH. Contact our social worker Christine at 330-545-6596 to make an appointment during open enrollment. OSHIIP will be here again on November 19th by appointment only to also assist people who are already enrolled in Medicare during open enrollment. Please sign up at the front desk.

6TH ANNUAL APPLE COOK OFF is Tuesday, October 8th at 9:15 a.m. in the coffee bar. Participate by making your favorite apple dish and entering it in our tasting contest or just feel free to come have some fall fun with us here at the center. If participating in the cook off, sign up is required. See staff for more information.

MONTHLY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! Wednesday, October 9th at 9:15 a.m. in the coffee bar! Each month we will be celebrating everyone’s birthday in that particular month. The Center will provide a special treat. Feel free to sing Happy Birthday and celebrate with us!

MONTHLY BLOCK WATCH MEETING: Wednesday, October 9th at 5:00 p.m. Bring a friend or neighbor

YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY MEMORY TESTING: Thursday, October 10th from 9:30-11:30. Are you interested in having a memory screening? YSU’s Gerontology program will be hosting a FREE 10 minute memory screening as part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s National Memory Screening Program. Sign up at the center or call if you would like to participate (330) 545-6596.

ACCUDOSE PHARMACY SEMINAR: Wednesday, October 16th at 9:15 a.m. in the coffee bar.

Maria Dinard from Accudose Pharmacy will be coming to talk about the services and options for ordering prescriptions.

COOKIE DECORATING WITH WINDSOR HOUSE: Tuesday, October 29th at 9:15 a.m. in the dining hall. Deanna from Windsor House will be joining us with some delicious cookies to decorate!

HALLOWEEN POTLUCK LUNCHEON: Thursday, October 31st from 12-2:00 p.m. in the Gym. Costumes are encouraged! (but not required). Come have some spooky Halloween fun with us and bring your favorite dish to share! Please sign up if you are planning to attend.

{UPCOMING PROGRAM EVENT} Paint & Taste with Mimi’s Paint and Sip, LLC: Thursday, November 14th at 9:30 a.m. at the Center. Cost for Members will be $15.00 (MUST BE A MEMBER). A sign-up sheet will be available beginning October 1st. Spots will be reserved when payment is made. See Paulette to sign up with payment. You must sign up by November 6th. Snacks and refreshments will be included.


MOVIES IN THE PARLOR: Every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Relax with a movie and enjoy having some popcorn together with the staff. See Jen with any movie suggestions

NUTRITION MEAL PROGRAM/Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs: Monday– Friday at 2:30 p.m.  You must call reservation in at least 2 days in advance at (330) 675-2486. While there is no fee for meals, client donations are accepted toward the cost of meals.  The contributions are an important part of the funding for the program. Menu calendars are available at the Multi-Generational Center.
